GRAND SEIKO WHITE BIRCH EVENT - MAY 2022 NEWS
At the end of April, we hosted an exciting Grand Seiko event at our Sydney salon to compare the now infamous Grand Seiko SLGH005 'White Birch', which won the prestigious Men’s Watch Prize in 2021 at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève awards, with it's newer version the SLGA009 White Birch.
We had Grand Seiko Sales Manager Kelly George and Grand Seiko Vincent Cuche General Manager at the event talking to our clients about the design and thinking behind the watches. Kelly explained how the first White Birch compares with the more recent edition, part of a new series that the brand refers to as it's Evolution 9 collection – a re-release of what we previously knew as Series 9 design.
Any watch fan will tell you that when it comes to Grand Seiko, the delight is in the details. As is so often the case with Grand Seiko watches, the dial of these timepieces was inspired by nature specifically the white birch forests of Shizukuishi, where the watchmaker’s mechanical watchmaking studio is located.

In addition to the differences in texture and tone of the two dials, you’ll find a slightly wider minute track on the SLGA009, which works in tandem with a re-proportioned and slightly larger date window in comparison to the SLGH005.
While the idea of adding a “White Birch” to your watch collection is indisputably a good one, only one question remains: which one is your favourite?
It was lovely to see so many of our Grand Seiko client's in person at our event and we are excited about the future of the Grand Seiko and J Farren-Price partnership as it continues to produce some incredible luxury timepieces.
