GRAND SEIKO NEW 'SEKKI' SPRING & SUMMER TIMEPIECES - JANUARY 2022 NEWS
A classic Grand Seiko design with a dial that captures a treasured moment in the Japanese seasonal calendar.
SBGA413 - GRAND SEIKO SPRING DRIVE HERITAGE 'SEKKI' RISSHUN SPRING
This is a modern re-interpretation of the celebrated 62GS from 1967. The 62GS was not only Grand Seiko’s first watch with an automatic movement, it was also, along with the 44GS released the same year, the watch that first expressed the design grammar, the Grand Seiko Style, that still shapes all Grand Seiko designs today. Like its predecessor, this modern re-interpretation has the characteristic sharp edges and perfect distortion-free surfaces that only Zaratsu polishing can create and a wide dial opening which was achieved thanks to a bezel-free construction.
Hana-ikada, the rafts of blossoms
When sakura blossoms fall into water, they swirl and float. The pink blossoms dance on the water, and the Japanese call them flower rafts, hana-Ikada. The pink dial of this model captures the spirit of the fleeting sakura season.
SBGH271 - HERITAGE HI-BEAT 'SEKKI' RIKKA EARLY SUMMER
The deep green dial evokes the sights and sounds of Rikka, the seventh of Japan’s twenty-four sekki or seasons. Spring has passed and the increasing warmth of the sun's rays announces that summer has begun. Japan’s plants take on a deeper green hue and, as they grow, sway elegantly in the ‘Kumpu’ wind.
Kunpu, the refreshing breeze
As spring passes to summer, the land turns lush and green. A refreshing summer zephyr blows over waving fields and grass. This refreshing zephyr in Japanese is kunpu. This model’s rich, green dial seizes a summer moment to enjoy forever.
It is during this season that rice is sowed (Bōshu) and when the night is shortest (Geshi). As the intensity of heat raises (Shōsho), summer ends with the hottest day of the year (Taisho).
