Last month, guests joined us at the Piermarq Art Gallery for a delightful evening exploring the many masterpieces that comprise Grand Seiko’s Evolution 9 Collection.
Walls lined with visual art and a beautiful Suntory cocktail bar formed the perfect backdrop for an event dedicated to creative timepiece designs that bring Japan’s most beautiful landscapes to life.
A striking White Birch tree installation shone in the heart of the space, transporting our guests to the essence of these Grand Seiko timepieces.

SBGK006 & SBGK007
SBGK006 is a classic combination, housed in an 18-carat gold case with a clean white dial and brown crocodile strap creating a perfect harmony. A curved dial with the hand-bent minute and power reserve hand gives the watch a classic look. SBGK007 features a stainless-steel case, a clean white dial and a black crocodile strap.
Understatement as artistry
These timepieces bring the pure, understated and subtle design aesthetic of Grand Seiko to the dress watch. The curved case and sapphire crystal speak of tradition and the artistry that makes the watch possible is evident in the perfect curve of the minute hand, which is bent by hand to follow exactly the contours of the dial. The movement within has a slim profile that belies its power and precision.
Less is more
The slim profile of the case is made possible by tailoring the engineering to the design. The movement is wound by hand and so can be thinner. The small seconds hand at the nine o’clock position uses less height than a centre seconds hand would need. The dial slopes away at the edge to accentuate the slimness of the case, which is curved to sit close to the wrist. Occasionally, less really is more.
The perfect fit
With its slim hand-winding movement and the rounded shape of the case, this handsome dress watch presents a thin profile from every angle and sits snugly on the wrist. What is perhaps surprising is that this is true whatever your wrist size. Thanks to the delicately curved lugs, the watch is a perfect fit on a small or larger wrist. To wear it is to believe it; it’s as if it were customised just for you.
Behind the dial
Calibre 9S63 is the first ever Grand Seiko movement equipped with a small seconds hand. It is located at the nine o’clock position, opposite the indicator on which you can see the power reserve increase as you turn the crown. Calibre 9S63 offers a power reserve of 72 hours and a precision rate of +5 and -3 seconds per day. The movement is hand assembled and adjusted by the master craftsmen and women of the new Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi.
