A BIG THANK YOU TO THE GRAND SEIKO TEAM - MAY 2021 NEWS
On 19th May I was delighted to be invited to a nice dinner with Grand Seiko at Seta restaurant in the city.
It was going to be a nice occasion with my long-term colleague Vincent Cuche, Australian brand manager of Grand Seiko and sales executive Kelly George. What was going to make the night even more special was the chance to dine with Managing Director of Seiko Australia Yukiaki Suganuma (Yuki).
We had recently sold a couple of very important Grand Seiko including an $85,000 platinum Snowflake SBGZ003 (below) and I postulated dinner was in recognition of this feat. 
Dinner was proceeding nicely when Vincent produced a Grand Seiko bag containing a suspiciously familiar shaped and beautifully wrapped box.
My suspicions were confirmed when I opened the packaging to reveal a stunning Grand Seiko H-beat GMT SBGJ203. I was truly speechless and on the verge of tears at this gesture, a first in my 32 years at J Farren-Price.
Having now worn this beautiful watch for the last week I can see why this brand is on a tear and gathering such great momentum in the market. The quality and detail are superb. The diamond polished and frosted dauphine hands are captivating. The Zaratsu polishing is mirror perfect and mesmerizing.
Grand Seiko is our only Japanese brand and I find the culture of the company most interesting and I suspect reflective of the country as a whole. I was very disappointed that Covid killed a special 60th Anniversary tour to the factory in 2020 as it would have been my first trip to this fascinating country.
I have always admired the Lexus slogan “a passion for perfection”. The Grand Seiko philosophy “Nature of Time” shares that strive for perfection. It is a passion at the heart and soul, driving every artisan at Grand Seiko and it’s evidenced by their incredible quality.
