AN ORIGINAL NAVY DIVER'S ROLEX SUBMARINER FROM 1976 - MARCH 2021 NEWS
The Rolex enthusiasts amongst you may be interested in this piece of history that was recently brought to J Farren-Price by a historical collector. He brought in his 1976 Rolex submariner model ref:1680 for us to photograph and write about, as it is an interesting piece of history.(Please kindly note, this watch is not owned by J Farren-Price and is not for sale).
He purchased the watch sometime in early 2019 from the original owner who was a Professional Australian Navy Diver. Amazingly, the Navy Diver wore his trusted Rolex Submariner daily since he first purchased it back in 1976. The lucky owner who lent us the watch for a short time, managed to also secure it's original box, all relevant Rolex accessories, minus the warranty paper. The watch is all original and shows the correct age patina for a daily wearer over this period.
Another piece of Rolex history came in the form of a divers helmet. This is no ordinary diving helmet, it is an exact replica of an original brass and copper helmet that divers used back in the day. It is an original Rolex sales piece used in the 1970s promotion for both Submariner and Sea Dweller at the time, the campaign was named (At One with the Sea).
At the time any Rolex sales merchandise was not kept and nor required to be sent back as it is today by Official Retailers. These are now very rare and highly sought after by Rolex.
